EMMES GlobalTraceSM is a unique secure web-based materials management tracking application that provides collaborating sites with a comprehensive shipping and inventory system. Using GlobalTrace enables tracking of individual samples shipped from the initial collection point to project defined destinations, tracking all activities in between. As an essential tool in any multi-center clinical trial, GlobalTrace interconnects local inventories at sites, laboratories and repositories to create a unified study materials record.
Generally, GlobalTrace uses unique study specific bar-coded labels to improve the reliability of specimen inventories. When required blinded specimens can be shipped to a laboratory for testing or for quality assurance purposes.
An easy to use system, GlobalTrace comes with a predefined specimen collection process that is completely customizable. It can be incorporated into your present workflow without imposing any disruptive changes.
Its powerful and seamless workflow system allows it to communicate and integrate with different information systems. Its component based architecture and standards-based approach allows for speedy implementation.
Other key features include:
- Web access from either the application's main page or deployed via a project portal
- Tracks specimens via electronic shipments in real time
- Tracks test results
- Provides verifiable responsibility chain between study entities
- Integrates with lab inventory control and management systems
- Supports aliquots and pooling
- Links with FedEx, UPS and other online shipping services
Built-in Quality Control procedures ensure that shipment contents are validated and provide mechanisms to promptly and efficiently resolve discrepancies. Overall GlobalTrace will improve the process efficiency of managing your project materials whether the specimens are tissue samples or photographs.
Virtual Electronic Shipping Manifest: The shipping manifest serves several purposes depending on your need. For this client, it is printed in two hard copies by the clinic. One copy accompanies the physical shipment sent to the designated destination - lab/repository. The other copy is maintained by the clinic as required documentation for specimen dispositions. The manifest lists what specimens are being shipped; by whom and to whom; the shipment date; and if desired with the associated specimen bar code label.
When the site sends the shipment electronically, the shipping manifest also becomes available to the receiving location. Personnel at the destination
are able to log onto GlobalTrace and view the details of the shipment via the manifest prior to the shipments arrival. Some labs download the shipping manifest to access/import the details of a batch for testing. By seeing the quantity and types of specimens they will be receiving, they are able to plan resources (e.g., freezer space, personnel to receive/handle/assay the specimens, reagents to prepare, etc.) accordingly. When the lab/repository receives the physical shipment, the paper copy of the manifest is also maintained as required for documentation.
